Italy Weather Italy Weather Forecast Italy Climate Italian Climate Italy Weather Italy Weather Forecast In the Italian Alps, where the higher mountains rise to above 3,000 m/10,000 ft, the climate is similar to that of the Swiss and Austrian Alps. Precipitation on the Italian side, however, is rather heavier.

From Turin to Venice in the North of Italy, the summers are as hot and almost as sunny as those in southern Italy. Winters are surprisingly cold for about three months.

The long Italian peninsula, from Genoa and Rimini in the north to Reggio di Calabria and Brindisi in the south, have a typical Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot and generally dry summers. The length and intensity of the summer dry season increases southwards.

 When to go to Italy
Italy is at its best in spring (April-May) and autumn (October-November). During these seasons, the scenery is beautiful, the temperatures are pleasant and there are relatively few crowds.

Try to avoid August, as this is the time that most Italians take their vacations, and many shops and businesses are closed as a result.

Climate in Italy: The climate of Italy is mainly temperate, though it varies slightly according to region.

The north of Italy is warm in summer, with occasional rain; the central area of the country is very humid; and the south is hot and dry.

The northern cities of Milan, Turin and Venice experience cold, damp foggy winter weather, and in Tuscany the mercury drops close to freezing. Winter weather in the south of Italy is more pleasant.

Required Clothing for Italy: Light- to mediumweights and rainwear are advised.
